El torito y la gitana también están hartos.

Desde hace unas semanas corre la noticia de que un grupo de españoles emigrados han comenzado un proyecto de serie web sobre los avatares de un grupo de paisanos en Londres. La primera vez que me hablaron del proyecto me interesó, pues creí que podría ver mis propias peripecias reflejadas en la pantalla, hasta que ayer tuve la poca fortuna de ver el primer episodio.
Y digo la poca fortuna porque los españoles retratados en el capítulo se mueven en manada como borregos, son incultos, irrespetuosos, gorrones, llevan una guitarra siempre encima aunque ninguno de ellos sea músico y para colmo desayunan Cola Cao con chorizo.
Nos encanta quejarnos de que en el ámbito internacional nos tratan como si fuéramos "el culo de Europa" y ¿cómo nos van a tratar, si nosotros mismos nos encargamos de identificarnos como tal?
No voy a negar que la situación que vive España actualmente es deplorable, pero por favor ¿podemos dejar de proyectar esa imagen de buscavidas ignorantes? Suficiente tenemos ya con nuestra clase política.
Hasta donde yo sé, no sólo en Londres, sino en todo el mundo hay cientos de miles de españoles que se ganan la vida muy dignamente, que son honrados, trabajadores, respetuosos, tienen talento para mucho más que tocar las palmas y hablan idiomas.
Siento vergüenza cuando me reducen a la siesta y a la fiesta, tanta como cuando me identifican con quien nos gobierna.
Y no es que me las quiera dar de mujer de mundo, soy la primera que tiene sus mas y sus menos con el idioma, que mete jamón serrano en la maleta y que se arranca a cantar por la Piquer llegado el caso (y el que me conozca lo sabrá).
Soy española. No me avergüenza decirlo. Soy Lázaro, soy Lola Flores y soy Quijote, pero también soy Lorca y Juan Ramón Jiménez, soy Berlanga, soy Juan de la Cierva y soy Ramón y Cajal, soy alegría y fiesta, pero también soy tragedia, soy vino y soy aceite, pero también sudor y sangre.
Un poco de perspectiva señores, por favor.

A couple of weeks ago I heard through the grapevine that some spanish imigrants have started a web series about a group of spaniards in London and their ups and downs. At first it caught my attention, because I thought I would watch some of my own vicissitudes portrayed on the screen, but unfortunately I watched the first episode.
I say unfortunately, because the spaniards in this series move all together as a sheep flock, they are hick and unrespectful freeloaders that always carry a guitar even when none of them is a musician and on top of that they have Cola Cao* with chorizo for breakfast.
We (spaniards) love to whine about how the international community address us as "the bottom of Europe" but how can they address us otherwise, given the way we present ourselves?
I won't deny the situation in Spain right now is regrettable, but please could we stop portraying ourselves as ignorant chancers? I think we have enough with our politicians already.
As far as I know, not only in London, around the world there are hundreds of thousands of spaniards that make a living with dignity, speak other languages, are honest hardworking, respectful people and talented enough to do much more than simply clap their hands.
I feel ashamed when I find myself reduced to "siesta and fiesta", as I feel ashamed when I find myself related to the ones that rule my country.
I don't want to pretend I am a "citizen of the world" I have my own ups and downs with the english language, I pack serrano ham when I come back from home and can sing a Concha Piquer song if the opportunity arises (and who knows me can confirm that).
I am Spanish. I am not ashamed of saying it. I am Lázaro, Lola Flores and Quijote, but I am also Lorca and Juan Ramón Jiménez, I am Berlanga, Juan de la Cierva and Ramón y Cajal. I am joy and fiesta, but I am also tragedy, I am wine and olive oil, but I am also sweat and blood.
All I am asking is a little bit of perspective there. Thank you.
